“Hayman is powerful and authoritative in her role and commands attention. She is by turns fiercely angry, frightened, pleading and accusatory and fully engages her audience in the emotional intensity of the woman’s horrifying lack of control over her own image.” - Catherine Skipper, SSH
“The very nature of a one-woman show is a terrifying feat for anyone to achieve, the act of standing on stage alone can be mortifying. Hayman embraces the isolating nature of this format, allowing us to feel as alone as she does on stage with this incredible story.” - ATYP Reviews
“Not lurid by any measure, The Infinity Mirror doesn’t retraumatise, but it does graphically allude to what millions of hitters have watched on porn sites in sophisticated, don’t look away, theatre-making.” - Reviews by Judith
“Speaking sometimes directly to the audience as “herself”, Hayman (and Doyle, who runs the technical aspects of the show, handles filming, an essential live part of the process) resist easy narratives.”- Cassie Tongue, SMH
THE INFINITY MIRROR
BY LILY HAYMAN AND THOMAS DOYLE
The Infinity Mirror was created and performed as a part of Shopfront Arts Co-Op’s Emerging Artists program ArtsLab: Unreliable Witness. The show explores the far reaching implications of rapidly advancing synthetic media and the affects of these new softwares of real people. The Infinity Mirror is the story of a woman who loses control of her identity, when she is the subject of a deep-fake revenge porn attack. She doesn’t know who did this. Or why. She doesn’t know who has seen it. All she can do it watch as her face spreads across the internet.
